Backup files not being deleted (old ones)

My backup retention is set at 7 backups. Currently there are 16 backup files and I'm sure more will be added.
Two of the 16 were created after a Quicken backup.
Is this a glitch or am I missing something?

    This is a long-standing issue with automated backups. It appears the counter gets reset when a new version update is installed. Given the recent monthly if not weekly updates, this is the result. Simply prune out any old files no longer needed.
