transactions change from cleared or reconciled to not cleared or reconciled

I use Quicken as my household checkbook. I having trouble having cleared and reconciled transactions changing to uncleared or reconconciled. If I try to mark the c or r it really meeses up my balance. Also this has caused my bank balance to be much larger than my quicken balance. I am stumped as to how to fix this. Any ideas? Thanks
