Attachment icon display problem

The attachment icon (paper clip) will not display on transactions that have attachment(s) when not selected, unless when attaching and saving any file, That is the only change that is made to the transaction. If you perform any other changes in a transaction along with adding an attachment, the paper clip icon will not display after saving it (by clicking on the little green water jug)
And why, when any transaction is selected, doesn't the paper clip icon change in some way to indicate the presence of attachments? this is rediculously basic!
