When entering Spinoff info for an older security, I receive the message "Name already exists".

I have tried to enter the data in the window, through editing in the transaction window, etc.

What am I not doing correctly? I do not want to start a new security to complete the transaction.

    Because you are backfilling in this data, you will need to work around this check.

    1. Backup your data file, just in case!
    2. Go ahead and give the form a new security to create. I suggest 1 character extra or different from the desired company at the end of the name. For example: FedEx Co- rather than FedEx Co
    3. The spin-off action will create one or more Add Shares transactions using that new name on the date you entered on the form.
    4. Now edit each of the Add Shares transactions removing the extra character bringing the name back to the desired name.
    5. Go to the security list (Ctrl-y) and delete the now extraneous security.
