Subcategory Search & Hidden Categories

This is the biggest time suck on this program for me. I'm bouncing along entering transactions and I need to add a new subcategory. I start the process and have to identify the primary category to add the sub. However, there is no search and entering a letter often takes me to another subcategory that is buried in the list and isn't alphabetized. So, I have to scroll up and down the list.

Further, if I go directly to the category list, it has the same quirk to add a subcategory.

I know I can go through and set up new category groupings but I may forget which group it's in anyway. Does this frustrate anyone else?

    Yes and No.

It is irritating when it happens but at this point, I rarely need to add additional categories (sub or not) that it doesn't really bother me.

You can add an Idea post and see whether enough people vote for this that Quicken may implement.

While in the register, adding a new transaction from the transaction entry line and you tab into the Category field, begin typing a category name. This should give you a popup selection list, to select the desired category from.

To add a new subcategory, you can abbreviate the procedure and begin typing the parent category name followed by ":" and the subcategory name, e.g., "Household:Furniture". Tabbing away from the Category field will prompt if you want to add a new category Furniture. Reply Yes, fill out the form and you're done. Now you can finish entering the transaction.
