security download issue

I have Quicken classic for windows revision R63.21

When Quicken downloads Vanguard Short Term corporate bond fund VCSH, it lists it as Vanguard 500 fund VFIAX in the registry. I have edited VCSH in security edits with the correct symbol, but Quicken continues to download it as Vanguard 500 and I get a mismatch error which I have to manually edit.

How can I correct this problem

@magordon in addition to making sure the security symbol is correct, make sure also that the security name is correct as well.

Then, the first thing to check is the CUSIP assigned for both securities. I think the correct CUSIP for VCSH is 92206C409. Open your Security List (Ctrl-Y) and check the "CUSIP ID" column. The CUSIP may have been matched with the wrong security. If there is no CUSIP listed that means the security has not been matched with one in your account at Vanguard.

If the CUSIP is incorrect, the next thing to do is to disconnect the securities with the incorrect CUSIP from online processing by right clicking the security in the Security List, and then selecting "Edit". At the bottom of the "Edit Security Details" window, uncheck "Matched with online security".

If the the check box is grayed out, that means the security in Quicken is not matched with the corresponding security at Vanguard.

Confirm that both securities are set up with the correct security symbol (Ticker).

Then do an OSU and check to see if the security VCSH has been matched up with the correct CUSIP.

Please make a backup of your data file before you start any major troubleshooting steps, just in case you need to go back to your original file.

You were correct that that CUSIP was assigned to the wrong security VFIAX. I unchecked the Matched with online security.

The check box for VCSH is grayed out and there is no CUSIP number entered. I tried to edit VCSH to add the CUSIP number but this was not an option.

I don't know what an OSU is?

How can I enter the CUSIP to VCSH?

    Thanks for your help

  • OSU = One Step Update.

@magordon - yes, as @Just Me and Not Someone Else mentioned OSU is One Step Update. I forget that not everyone uses that acronym.

As for that VCSH CUSIP 92206C409 and the checkbox for "Matched with online security", there could be several reasons why it's grayed out.

The CUSIP may be already matched with an existing security. Check your Security List to see if another security is set up with that CUSIP.

There may be Placeholder Entries. Placeholder transactions can interfere with matching. Look for any placeholders and try resolving or deleting them.
