Crypto Securities Not Listed in Price History Update Function, So Prices Not Updating
Crypto prices are no longer updating in Quicken. There have been multiple posts about this in the past, but the discussions were closed, so new ones must be opened every time.
When will Quicken implement the "support for Crypto" your CEO, Eric Dunn, announced September 21, 2022, when crypto was a $1 TRILLION industry, but was never completed?
The Crypto Market Cap has grown to a $4 TRILLION industry since this announcement in 2022 and Quicken is missing out DAILY on the exponential consumer market that aligns perfectly with its past mission - to aggregate all finances into one app!
This small "support for Crypto" included adding Coinbase as a Crypto Central Exchange (CEX) beta test to financial institutions, but was never functional the last time I tried years ago and support continually deferred to "future development" without follow up.
The most helpful "support for Crypto" added the ability for Quicken to update a small selection of crypto prices, using the ^ symbol preceding the ticker. This function has been supported primarily by the Quicken Community, including me, rather than by official Quicken support.
However, that function stopped working months ago for several coins I had successfully set up. On investigation, I noticed the crypto securities were not included in the Price History Update function, which leads me to suspect it is not included in the Current Price Update function either. Notice none of the "^" prefixed tickers are in the entire list:
To correct the errors of the past, bring Quicken up to current financial standards, and grow its market share among crypto and other investment professionals in this rapidly expanding industry, I request the following corrections and upgrades, in order of importance and ease of implementation:
1) Please fix the Crypto Current Price and History Updates to include crypto tickers with "^" prefix so this minimal function will be restored.
2) Adjust decimal points for price and buy/sell quantity as far out as practical.
3) Add fields and data for High/Low/Last Price and trading Volume along with Crypto Current Price and History Updates
4) Include at least the top 100 cryptos by market cap, which you can easily find on CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap. They even have APIs you can use to connect the dataset to Quicken.
5) Add Crypto Currency Swap Transaction Type, for exchanging one crypto for another without having to sell the prior one to cash, then buy the new one with cash received (i.e. combine the transaction into one transaction, which more accurately portrays the transaction).
6) Add Stock/ETF/Crypto Options Transaction Type to Quicken.
7) Add the ability to reliably Import ALL Investment Transaction Types from .CSV files using the fields necessary to achieve the above requirements.
8) Develop in-house Crypto Transaction Updates, directly from the blockchain, or Integrate Quicken with an external Crypto Tax Aggregator, like Koinly, for automatic transaction downloads, much like Quicken already does for legacy banking/broker transactions.
9) Consider integration of TradingView into Quicken for Advanced Investment Charting inside Quicken.
10) Add a User-Defined Default Cost Basis setting for each security and/or each class of security, so one does not have to specify FIFO, LIFO, Max Gain, or Min Gain every time we sell a security. Make sure this field is importable and/or easily configured in settings.
The rapidly growing $4 TRILLION crypto industry has now been officially validated, adopted and legitimized by all relevant branches of the US and many other governments worldwide for transactions between CEXs, DEXs (Decentralized Crypto Exchanges), individual wallets, legacy Banks and Brokers for spot cash, leverage and retirement account types.
Thanks for your prompt attention to these matters that have been requested for several years now in order for Quicken to finally capture a large market share of this growth industry and make it easier for crypto investors to enjoy the benefits of Quicken's All-In-One Personal Finance solutions.
Sincerely,
Quickenator …since 1992

I am also very frustrated and it seems my Coinbase value along with my manually entered transactions are totally off from their real values because of the inability to accurately assign the Crypto symbol. My Crypto portfolio is 3,000% higher which is the difference between retiring and being REALLY frustrated because of wrong share/coin prices. I don't see this as a feature request, it should work, it's just working badly right now.

Right. It's a feature they already announced, but have not yet provided. These are relatively simple tasks for a knowledgable software developer for a system already designed for an essentially identical purpose.

Just trying to keep this alive and I got a new update and no mention of any Crypto fixes….. Many software companes have a web portal where you can see the burndown list, asks and voting. I was Quicken was much more open on what is happening versus trying to track via posts like this when, especially when there are multiple posts. Fidelity is a great example of no clue what is happening…..

Will Quicken ever track crypto?

Why the heck is Crypto not syncing? Is Quicken made for old people? I am about to return this product and cancel all my subscription to this dinosaur of a product.

Well, I'm old, but I do crypto, too, lol.🤣 Still waiting for Q to finish what the CEO promised in September 2022.👆️

I gave up and ended up writing some web queries in Excel to use CoinGecko's API to get pricing data, manipulate it and import it into Quicken. It's a PITA when CoinGecko changes something on their end, but when it works (which is 99.99% of the time), it works beautifully. But I shouldn't have to be doing this!!!
