Printing checks with blank amount

I used to be able to print just the payee and date, and handwrite the amount later. For some unknown reason Quicken 2012 won't allow that any longer. As far as I know, nothing I have done would have caused this change. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The settings for the write checks window related to the amount field have changed over the years. As to why your Q2012 would change as patching ceased for that product in 2015, it’s an unexplainable mystery. But you should be able to work around the amount required in the Write Checks window.

    Paraphrased from an archived post:

Don't use CTRL+w (Tools > Write and Print Checks) to create the blank amount check.

In the account register from which you wish the check withdrawn, enter a transaction with nothing but the Date and Payee and "Print Check" in the Check# column.

Then do CTRL+w, select the "blank amount” check, and click Print.
