Printing Checks - Unexpected Printer Setting Changes

I have been using standard, full sheet checks, three on a page with tear-off strip on the bottom for a long time. I only print checks occasionally, so usually it is only one check at a time that needs to be printed. During the last year or so, The following has happened to me perhaps two times. The full page has always printed the top check with no problem. The next time I need to print a check, when it asks "how many checks on the page", I will answer "two". Then, I go ahead and tell it to print, without realizing that it DIDN'T ask me, "Is the tear-off strip attached"? So, of course, since I inserted the remaining two checks rotated sideways, it prints in portrait form, which, of course, comes out as sideways printing, and I have two ruined checks.

I went through this twice until I finally realized that my printer setup for partial page had changed from "Center" to "Portrait". I believe this happened last year also. I'm hitting myself in the head because I should have realized I had a setup problem since it didn't ask me, "Do you have a tear-off strip"?

Any ideas as to why this printer setting should have changed?

Various preferences seem to get reset by Quicken patch updates. Back when I was using a current version, I would check preference settings after patches were applied and reset any that had changed to my preferred settings.

Thank you for your response. I was kind of suspecting this might happen during patches. I just have to remember to check the printer settings.

If you can't resolve the partial check page printing issue, you can try to use form leaders to feed your printer with a proper 8.5x11" sheet while printing a partial 1- or 2-checks page in normal portrait orientation.

See https://intuitmarket.intuit.com/supplies/forms/form-leaders for an example of form leaders. Check your local office supply store, search on the Internet or order from Intuit.

    My 2cents'worth:
I use Voucher Checks (1 business size check + 2 stubs on an 8.5x11" sheet). My printers do not have a manual feed tray or 2nd paper tray that can easily be reconfigured to feed partial pages (1 or 2 checks left from a 3-checks-per-page sheet), so for my occasional check printing needs Voucher Checks are easiest to use.
When making a purchase decision for a new supply of check forms and considering your own check stock to use, consider how easy or difficult it is to feed special forms or odd-size partial pages into your printer.
