Managing Accounts

New – It is now simple to view the entered password in plain text when adding new financial institution credentials to ensure accuracy.

Improved – If you are uncertain about the category to assign to an "Opening Balance" transaction, you can modify it in the account register.

Improved – It is now simpler to switch the connection method for an account. You can choose the preferred connection type from the account settings window instead of relying on the Quicken default option.

Reports

New – You can now generate a Reconciliation Report for the accounts you have reconciled. This report can be accessed and printed from the Reconciliation History window.  (Requires macOS 10.15+)

New - New Income & Expense card on the Dashboard is a useful tool that allows to quickly view your total income, total expenses, and net income for a selected time period. The card also provides the ability to drill down to a report for more detailed information. This feature can be helpful for tracking financial performance and making informed financial decisions.

Improved - Based on your feedback, the Schedule D tax report now includes both manually categorized investment transactions and automatically computed Capital Gains and Losses.

Improved – “Top Spending Payees” card on the Dashboard now excludes transfers, manually entered Opening Balance transactions, Reconcile adjustments, and other balance adjustments in Split Lines to present more accurate spending data.

Improved - Learning Center offers more information about reports in Quicken.

Improved - The "Spending by Category" card on the Dashboard now includes transactions for payees that have been marked as hidden to ensure consistency with the reports and other cards on the Dashboard. 

Bills

Improved - The process of updating eBills for Chase credit cards has been improved for a better experience.

Improved - A new column has been added to the scheduled transaction list, allowing to view the frequency of each transaction in addition to the amount due and payment status. This can help you better understand and manage your recurring transactions. 

Improved - It is now easier to view scheduling options when creating or editing a scheduled transaction.

Investments improvements 

Improved - Significantly faster performance when downloading investment OFX data.

Connectivity Status window 

Improved - A new functionality has been implemented to allow to easily share error details with support agents in the event of an error during account updates. The error details can now be selected and copied from the Connectivity Status window, and then pasted into an email, chat window, or other communication tool for troubleshooting.

Improved – Now you can view the entire message of a connectivity error by simply hovering over the error message, eliminating the truncation of text that was previously an issue.

Important note: 

To keep Quicken for Mac secure and up to date with the latest Mac technologies, we will be ending support for macOS High Sierra (10.13) and macOS Mojave (10.14) after the v6.12 release. These operating systems are no longer supported by Apple.

This means that Quicken for Mac v6.12 will be the last release that will run on macOS versions 10.13 and 10.14.   Our main focus for v6.12 release is on improving the overall quality and stability of the product, so there may not be many new features.

The first feature we're introducing is Dark Mode. Dark Mode is a huge amount of work because every single screen and window in Quicken has to be updated. We've got most of the basic screens looking pretty good so we think the early access Dark Mode is pretty usable but you will find cosmetic issues throughout the product where a screen doesn't quite look right or something is too dark or on a white background and stands out. Anyway, instead of holding up this feature before it's completely done, we've decided to allow those that want to try it out to be able to turn it on and use it. For those of you that use Dark Mode, we hope this early look at the feature makes using Quicken a little more enjoyable for now until we can work out all the kinks and can release it officially.

• 7/29 - Staged release to a small segment of customers.  If you want to try it out, select Check for Updates under the Quicken menu to be able to upgrade to v6.3.
• 8/6 - Shipped 6.3.1 that includes fixes for multi-currency issues in Portfolio View and Investment Transaction view when selecting a grouped account item on the sidebar such as Investing, Brokerage, Retirement, or Education. Also fixed issues with Portfolio View settings not getting saved or restored.
• 8/23 - Shipped 6.3.2 that restores the calendar view colors back to the way they looked before and we also made the investment dashboard match the account selection of portfolio and transaction view in the Investing, Brokerage, Retirement, and Education groups. We're still in a limited release but should be able to open this up to everyone shortly.

Reports

• New – Easy Answer report. Quickly generate focused reports to help answer some of the top questions and get valuable information about the state of your finances. *Requires macOS 10.15 or later.   

• Improved – We now display totals at the bottom of the screen and on printed reports that are more aligned with standard accounting practices.

• New - Foreign Bank Accounts Report (FBAR). Easily calculate the maximum balance of your foreign bank account balances within a calendar year. It will significantly help you with your taxes. [*Requires Quicken Premier or above]

Investments Improvements

• Asset Classes in Portfolio.   We changed the way securities with multiple asset classes are displayed. Securities with multiple asset classes will display within each relevant asset class alongside a new percentage label that indicates the proportion of the security that falls within that asset class.  

•  See the latest market data.   When looking at your Portfolio while markets are closed, Quicken will automatically show the price change data from the last trading day. It will then automatically advance when markets reopen.

• Mutual fund price callout.   Mutual fund prices update after markets close. When Quicken identifies a mutual fund, an info icon appears next to the price when the latest price displayed is not from the most recent trading day.  

• Cash in Security.   When the funds include "Cash" as one of the asset classes in a mixture, Quicken now differentiates it by naming the asset class "Cash in Security." Renaming the asset class helps to distinguish between cash as an asset and the actual cash in your account. 

Touch ID and Apple Watch Support

New Column Headers

We continue to get customer care calls regarding missing data because customers don't realize their register is filtered or their transactions are not sorted by the transaction date.  We added a green button to indicate when the register is filtered to help with this issue.  In this release, we're adding an updated look for the headers that will include blue text and a blue line above the column to bring attention to the sorted column. In Quicken Mac, you can sort the register by simply clicking on the header so it's relatively easy to accidentally change the sort order.

Improved Report Toolbar

We've added Export and Duplicate Report to the Report toolbar so you can export and duplicate reports without being forced to open the report first.  We've also moved the New Report button from the side to the same toolbar to hopefully make it easier to find.  Of course, these capabilities are also available on the report contextual menu.

Investment Dashboard Enhancements

In 6.5, when you grew the Quicken window wider, the investment dashboard cards also grew wider but they didn't take advantage of the extra space. In 6.6, we made this better by adding relevant columns so you can see more information if you have more room.


We've also changed the way the Top Movers are sorted so that all the gains and losses are grouped together. Basically, the sort order goes from the highest gain to the biggest loss. This is based on a lot of feedback from the community.

Edit Price Per Share

Quicken has always defaulted to calculating the price per share based on customer entered values for the total cost and number of shares for the transaction. This is because brokerages will round up or down to a certain number of decimal places to make things easier to read even though the actual transaction has a different number for the price per share. Allowing customers to enter in the price per share can result in the wrong total cost impacting tax reporting.  However, we heard a number of customers wanted to be able to enter in the price per share.  In fact, it was a top 10 requested feature by customers.  In v6.6, you'll be able to override this default behavior and instead enter in the price per share and number of shares and Quicken will calculate the total cost.

2/25 - Started rolling out the v6.6 release to early access customers and to a small percentage of customers. If you want to get the release now, just go to Check for Updates to download v6.6.

Dark Mode is ready for prime time, having graduated from being our first Early Access feature.

Quicken will match your system’s appearance by default. If you have Dark Mode turned on, or set to “Auto”, on your Mac, Quicken will change modes along with your other software. If you’d like to always view Quicken in Light or Dark, change the setting:

Go to Quicken > Preferences and then find the Appearance menu on the General tab.

Highlight Rows on Hover 

Scan your transactions with a mouse or trackpad. Watch the rows highlighted for better visibility.

When you’re getting into the weeds of your finances, every little bit helps. Highlighting rows on hover is a simple and effective way to add focus to the transaction under your cursor. 

Drag & Drop Cards 

Rearrange the cards in your investing dashboard using drag and drop. 

We continue to improve your investing experience with the ability to rearrange the cards in your dashboard. First, click, hold, and drag down from a card’s title area. Then, drop your card on top of another card to swap positions or in the gap between cards to place it to the left or right of that card.

Pie Chart Drill-Down 

Drill-down into asset classes or “Other” slices from our dashboard charts to reveal more of your data.

You can now drill down to reveal securities that make up an asset class. The ability to drill down greatly improves the Asset Allocation and Allocation by Security cards. You can also select the Other slice to display the next level when you have more securities than can fit on a pie chart. 

Other enhancements to the Investing features:

Toolbar

The new flexible Portfolio toolbar is now located in the same location as the toolbars in Dashboard and Transactions. As the window shrinks, the buttons collapse into the “"” menu.

Edit Share Price and Edit Share Balance

In all investing accounts, you can now edit the Share Price of any security. For Simple Tracking accounts, you can also edit the Share Balance.

Calculate transactions with Share Price

In our last release, we introduced the ability to calculate investment transactions using price per share instead of total cost. We’ve extended that feature to apply to Reinvest transactions. 

There are several changes in v6.6.1 that help you to be more efficient when using Quicken Mac.  These are the highlights on a few changes:

Payee Name for a transfer

Now, you can successfully change a Payee name to something you can easily recognize, and it will stay unchanged after syncing action is performed on your Quicken Mac data.

Investment accounts

If you’ve been using a companion app with your Quicken Mac, you probably noticed that Investment accounts are not synced after you reset dataset.  Now, with this release, you can reset your dataset and successfully use a companion app to view the updated investment data.   

New Investment accounts (for customers with Quicken Mac Canada only)

You can set the correct account type for your investment accounts instead of tracking them as “Other”.

Scheduled transactions

When you create a scheduled transaction, a New Bill for example, the reminder is properly recorded for the Payment account.  Once this transaction gets marked as “Paid”, it becomes a manual transaction even if the Quick Pay/Check Pay is not enabled on the Payment account.

QFX import

If you need to import multiple QFX files, now you can do it without quitting your Quicken Mac app after importing one file.  All QFX files are getting processed, and all their transactions get imported.  Quicken will alert you if you if there is a file that has already been processed and the import action will be blocked.

There are other small enhancements in this release, and we fixed some bugs that have been reported by Quicken Mac users as well.

• Improved investment dashboard. Now the dashboard cards expand with the window and fill the screen. Holdings now display the security name instead of the symbol to take advantage of the wider card width. There's a new toolbar that gives you more control such as setting the date for the information in the dashboard, updating quotes, and choosing to display cents.
• More improvements to the Account Sidebar Notifications. We now add an icon to tell you whether auto-reconcile succeeded or if there were issues requiring a manual review. We also give you more control regarding what the blue dot indicator represents. You can continue to have it represent accounts with new transactions or you can change it to represent accounts that have unreviewed transactions.
• Brand-New Add eBill - We've completely re-built the add eBill flow to make it more reliable and simpler to use. Previously, trying to add an eBill would sometimes fail because it would time out. Now we support a Pending state which means we'll continue to try to add it even after you've completed the add eBill process. These incomplete eBills will now appear in a new Pending tray that appears at the bottom of the screen of the Bills and Payee tabs. The flow now also supports adding more than one account from a single biller and will also propose a scheduled transaction for you instead of forcing you to define one.
• Quicken Connect Investments - Previously Quicken Mac only supported Direct Connect investment accounts which worked fine if you had a brokerage account from a long-established brokerage such as Schwab, Fidelity, or Vanguard. Unfortunately, none of the new brokerage companies supported the infrastructure required for Direct Connect investments so you previously couldn't add these accounts. We've just turned this on in v6.4 and v6.5 so you will now be able to add Robinhood, Betterment, and others.  In many cases, you will only be able to get the market value for the account but at least this will allow you to track your true net worth. You now have access to an additional 800 financial institutions but the quality of each of these connections will be different depending on the institution.  Let us know which ones are working for you and which ones aren't.

• 11/17 - Initial rollout of 6.0. Only some people will be automatically notified.  If you'd like to upgrade to the release without waiting, just go to Check for Updates under the Quicken menu to force the update.
• 11/20 - Released 6.0.1 to all customers.

• 5/13 - Starting to roll out v6.2 to a select number of people. If you want to try it out now, just go to the Quicken : Check for Updates menu item and you'll be able to download it immediately.
• 5/27 - We released v6.2.1 with some minor bug fixes and improvements to the transaction download process. We're still in a staggered release mode so not everyone will see the upgrade notice but if you want to upgrade, just go to Check for Updates under the Quicken menu.
• 6/2 - 6.2.1 is now available to everyone.

• 1/26 - Started the roll out to a small number of customers. If you want to download the release now, select the Check for Updates menu item under the Quicken main menu.
• 2/2 - Released an updated version.
