I have been having an issue with the Credit Score function for longer than I can remember. I've tried calling support, and allegedly the issue has been elevated, but that was 6 months ago. I've tried calling back multiple times and can never get an update. I have to start from scratch, explaining the issue every time.

Long story short, when I click on the Credit Score link, a new window opens saying:

"Internet unavailable. Failed to connect to the server. This could happen if you are in an offline mode. Please try later."

I can use One Step Update with no issues. I've already verified all of the steps suggested for Windows Defender and Firewall settings. My settings are good to go.

I can get the window to open, requesting my social security number, if I log out of my Quicken Account, close Quicken, and then log back in. But after I enter my SSN, I get the same message as before. Screenshot attached.

I see this issue in a number of threads, but they are all closed without having a resolution. Does anyone know a fix for this issue?

Recently, I created a Transaction report where only the Category Restaurant was chosen. The problem results from a split transaction. In the transaction there were four entries only one of which was the category Restaurant. The Restaurant amount was $262.08 while the total split transaction was for $1,574.08. In the report which was for just the Restaurant category the total for that payee was $1,574.08 while it should have been $262.08.

I found this issue occurred frequently for split transactions. Has anyone else noticed this? Should I report it as a problem or did I do something incorrectly in creating the report?

When customizing a report by categories, hidden categories are automatically selected. You can clear all, but they come back. If you show hidden categories, clear them, then select the ones wanted in the report, then uncheck the box to show hidden categories, then immediately check the box again to show them, all hidden categories will automatically be selected. I've been fighting this for years, it's never been corrected. Does anyone know why or know any more about this?

I had to buy a new laptop with Win 11 and ran into it again as I was doing file maintenance and reduction for the transition to the new laptop and system.

DDavis

When I need to transfer funds from an investment to my checking account, I record it in the checking account as a deposit with the investment account as the category. I record the transaction gross of taxes and show taxes separately as part of a split transaction. For example, a $10,000 investment withdrawal and $2,000 income taxes is shown in 2 separate lines of a split transaction in an $8,000 deposit to my checking account.

In my budget report, the $10,000 is not showing up, yet the $2,000 is displayed.

I have no idea why the investment withdrawal is not showing.

I am using Quicken Classic for Windows R66.18 and have multi-currency support enabled for some accounts.

When I look at the Banking/Transactions report, I only see amounts in my home currency regardless of what I have selected in the report Other / Currency: <Foreign Currency Selector> box. This seems to be a new-ish issue in the past year or so, previously I was able to see the transaction report amounts displayed in the original foreign currency (for accounts that use a foreign currency). This also appears to only happen for my older data file; if I create a brand new quicken data file that only has one checking account in home currency and one checking account in foreign currency, the Banking/Transactions report will show the correct amounts based on what is set in the Other / Currency: <Foreign Currency Selection> drop down box.

Example: Home currency is USD, foreign currency is EUR. Transfer $119 from USD checking to EUR checking, enter 100euro as the EUR checking received amount. When I look in the register for each account, I see the correct $119 or 100euro amounts, and the account bar shows the correct balance in $ or euro. But when I run a Banking/Transaction report, I only see the number 119 showing up.

I've submitted a "Share your Feedback" report with screenshot and uploaded a sanitized data file. Would greatly appreciate a resolution to this. Thanks!

I recently posed the following rather lengthy question to one of my favorite AI Assistants. Here is the actual Prompt:

I have been a longtime Quicken (classic, desktop Windows version) user. I see so much effort in creating tax reporting information for all of the types of taxable transactions. With all of the various forms of corruption in Quicken data, and the time and effort expended in keeping it all straight, correct, and correctly repored and extracted, and then the added effort in inputting the Quicken generated tax information into Turbotax (or other Tax software), I really wonder if any of that is worth the trouble, since the Broker is the primary sources of "truth" that IRS receives and recognizes. If I were to go the arduous path of "best efforts at data integrity" using Quicken-to-Turbotax, and there's a discrepancy with what my broker (Fidelity) reports, I think it's a steep (probably impossible) climb to challenge the Fidelity provided data, and probably not worth all of the collective effort. What do you think, and why do so many people seem to labor over maintaining Quicken tax data integrity ?

The response I received was rich, informative, and as is usually the case, pretty well aligned with my intuitive sense of things (maybe it's just trained to generally agree and expound when my intuition is close to their assessment of the truth). Here is the Response:

You’re not imagining the asymmetry here: for taxable investment activity, the IRS treats the broker’s 1099 as the authoritative record, and Quicken’s internal tax‑lot history is not considered evidence unless it matches or explains what the broker already reported. That single fact reshapes the entire cost‑benefit equation of maintaining pristine Quicken tax data.

The short version of the answer is: for most modern investors, maintaining Quicken as a tax‑accurate system of record is rarely worth the effort, but people still do it for reasons that have little to do with IRS reporting and everything to do with personal control, historical reconstruction, and workflow psychology.

Why the broker’s data dominates

The IRS relies on third‑party information returns—W‑2s, 1099s, 1099‑B, 1099‑DIV, etc.—as its primary matching system. Brokers are required to report cost basis for covered securities, wash sales, adjustments, and proceeds. When the IRS compares your return to what Fidelity sent them, Fidelity’s data wins by default unless you can produce overwhelming documentation.

The search results reinforce this dynamic: the IRS increasingly cross‑checks taxpayer filings with third‑party data sources and information returns to detect discrepancies. finhelp.io

That means:

If Quicken says one thing and Fidelity says another, TurboTax will side with Fidelity.

If you try to override the broker’s numbers, you must attach explanations and documentation.

Challenging the broker’s 1099 is possible but slow, bureaucratic, and rarely successful unless the broker truly made a mistake.

Given that, the return on investment for maintaining Quicken’s tax‑lot accuracy is low unless you have a special use case.

Why maintaining Quicken tax integrity feels so hard

Quicken’s tax engine was designed in an era when brokers did not report cost basis. Today, brokers do the heavy lifting, but Quicken still expects you to maintain:

Correct tax categories and tax‑line mappings for every transaction

Accurate cost basis for every lot

Correct handling of corporate actions, spin‑offs, mergers, wash sales, and return‑of‑capital

Clean data free of corruption, duplicate downloads, or mis‑categorized entries

Quicken’s own documentation emphasizes the need to categorize transactions correctly and assign tax lines so that reports and exports match IRS forms. info.quicken.com
But this is exactly the part that becomes fragile over time.

You’ve already experienced the classic failure modes: data corruption, mismatched lots, broken corporate actions, and the sheer overhead of keeping everything reconciled.

So why do people still labor over Quicken tax data?

Most users who maintain Quicken tax integrity fall into one of four categories:

1. They use Quicken as a personal financial archive, not a tax engine

They want a complete, multi‑decade ledger of their financial life. Tax accuracy is a side effect of wanting the data to be “clean.”

2. They distrust brokers or want independent verification

Some investors want a second system to validate the broker’s 1099‑B.
But in practice, when there’s a discrepancy, the broker’s data still wins.

3. They have complex, non‑covered securities

Examples include:

Pre‑2011 lots

DRIPs with decades of reinvestments

Old mutual funds with incomplete basis reporting

Legacy employer stock with ESPP/RSU adjustments

For these, Quicken can help reconstruct basis—but only if the user is willing to maintain it meticulously.

4. They use Quicken’s tax reports for planning, not filing

This is the most rational modern use case.
Quicken’s tax reports help with:

Estimating quarterly taxes

Modeling capital‑gain harvesting

Understanding the tax impact of withdrawals in retirement

But the final filing still defers to the broker.

When maintaining Quicken tax data is worth it

There are a few scenarios where the effort pays off:

You actively tax‑loss harvest and want to track wash‑sale windows across accounts.

You manage multiple taxable accounts and want a unified view of realized/unrealized gains.

You need multi‑year projections for retirement withdrawal sequencing.

You want a personal audit trail that explains why a broker’s 1099 looks the way it does.

Even then, the goal is planning, not filing.

When it’s not worth it

For most investors with covered securities and a modern brokerage like Fidelity:

Fidelity’s 1099 is complete and IRS‑aligned.

TurboTax imports it directly.

Any discrepancy between Quicken and Fidelity is noise.

The IRS will never see your Quicken data.

In that world, Quicken becomes a personal finance tool, not a tax compliance system.

A practical middle‑path for someone with your workflow

Given your emphasis on deterministic, technician‑safe workflows and your skepticism of fragile systems, the most resilient approach is:

Stop trying to make Quicken the tax system of record.

Let Fidelity be the authoritative source for tax filing.

Use Quicken only for planning, cash‑flow tracking, and historical context.

Avoid exporting Quicken tax data into TurboTax except for categories unrelated to brokerage activity (charitable giving, property taxes, etc.).

This eliminates the corruption‑risk surface and the wasted effort while preserving the parts of Quicken that still deliver value.

A question to help refine this further

Do you primarily use Quicken’s investment data today for tax filing, tax planning, or portfolio analysis? The answer shapes how much of the tax‑integrity burden you can safely drop.

Good day all.

This is a problem that I have had for several years and I thought that I might ask to see if anyone else has experienced this…and arrived at a solution.

I have several reports that I run using toolbar icons. One is a P/L report (income vs expenses). I run YTD reports at the end of every month…most recently 1/1/2025 - 12/31/2025 actual vs 2025 budget.

To prepare for 2026, I changed the dates to 1/1/2026 - 1/31/2026 and the budget from 2025 to 2026…and saved it. I will extend the end date each month.

The issue that I have is not that the report won't run…it will. But it 1st runs the previous setting - i.e. 1/1/2025 - 12/31/2025 - and then runs 1/1/2026 - 1/31/2026. I get my report but, given that I include unrealized gains, it takes a while.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes this is somewhat nit-picky but is anyone else bothered by the way Quicken sums numbers in reports with respect to underlying data that may have been rounded? When dollar amounts are rounded to two decimal places but the underlying values have more precision, this results in the reported column of numbers summing to a different total than Quicken gets by summing the original non-rounded values.

For example if report amounts are say

$42.35 (actually $42.354)
$10.19 (actually $10.194)

which yield the sums

$52.54 (actually $52.548)

Using the original more precise amounts Quicken would report the sum of $42.35 and $10.19 as $52.55.

Most recently I noticed a similar effect with a Capital Gains report when preparing taxes. Setting the option to not show cents in the report rounded the values properly in the Gross Proceeds column but summed the columns using the original values, whereas the tax form sums the rounded number so the two totals did not match.

It seems to me that Quicken ought to sum the reported (rounded) values and not use the underlying amounts which had more precision. For example, I have never noticed any of my investment statements summing reported numbers this way and coming up with a different total based on what one would get by adding the individual reported dollar and cent values.

If the categories or tags could be the columns and the months could be the rows it would present much easier. I suppose I could export to Excel however the less steps for a simple report would be easier.

Thank you.

I am writing to request a status update on a critical bug that has remained unresolved for over a year.

Issue: Incorrect account balances appearing in the Account Balances Report for Investments.

Reference Discussion: I reported this bug over a year ago. In May 2025 I took the time to meet directly with the development team to demonstrate this issue. Subsequently, I confirmed in June with the team that they identified the underlying cause and stated it would be resolved. Their response "We have been able to reproduce the issue in the file you shared and will soon be prioritizing it for upcoming/future patch release of Quicken Desktop Product for Windows."

Despite this confirmation and the passage of time the bug persists in the current release.

Accuracy in investment reporting is a core function of Quicken. It is incredibly frustrating to provide direct, 1-on-1 feedback to the developers only to have the fix stall for a year.

My Current Environment:

Product: Quicken Classic Deluxe

Version: R65.29

Build: 27.1.65.29

Can a Moderator please escalate this thread? Is a fix is actually in the pipeline or why a "confirmed" resolution has not been implemented.

@Quicken Anja
<div data-embedjson="{"recordID":7958012,"recordType":"discussion","body":"
<\/p>
Product Version<\/strong>: Quicken Deluxe for WindowsFeature Affected<\/strong>: Account Balances Report<\/em>Issue Summary<\/strong>: The Account Balances Report<\/em> generates incorrect account balances for various Investing Accounts<\/em> when accessed from the Net Worth & Balances<\/em> tab. Banking <\/em>and Property & Debt <\/em>are correctly shown. <\/p>
Steps to Reproduce<\/strong>:<\/p>

Navigate to the Report<\/em> → Net Worth & Balance<\/em> in Quicken.<\/li>
Click on the Account Balances Report<\/em> button.<\/li>
Observe the generated report.<\/li><\/ol>
Expected Result<\/strong>:<\/p>

The report should display account balances that match the values shown in the Accounts<\/em> menu on the left sidebar.<\/li><\/ul>
Actual Result<\/strong>:<\/p>

The report displays erroneous balances for most Investment accounts:

Balances are for manually entered data matches.<\/li>
Balance for downloaded transactions (Fidelity and ETrade) are always the same or higher in the report than in the Accounts menu.

Some accounts show some minor differences (1.5%) (Fidelity Accounts).<\/li>
Some accounts are signficantly difference, one for ETrade is almost 2x higher.<\/li>
Accounts for HSA account downloaded from Fidelity tie exactly. <\/li>
These irregularities extend into all prior periods. A comparison of report produced last month (and saved to Excel) to this current report shows that these irregularities were not for recent reporting but impacted all prior reporting periods. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>
Impact<\/strong>:<\/p>

The report provides inaccurate data, rendering it unreliable for tracking financial information.<\/li><\/ul>
Other Details:<\/strong><\/p>

The report was produced on November 2nd, at that time the report was reporting correct balances. Running the report this month the data is showing the irregularityies above.<\/li>
I have run VALIDATE and SUPER VALIDATE on the report, no significant issues were noted and this did not resolve the problem. <\/li>
As FYI - I submitted a report this morning of this bug through \"Report a problem…\" this morning with a screen shot of showing the comparison of the report to the account list balances.<\/li><\/ul>","bodyRaw":"[{\"type\":\"p\",\"children\":[{\"text\":\"\"}]},{\"type\":\"p\",\"children\":[{\"text\":\"Product Version\",\"bold\":true},{\"text\":\": Quicken Deluxe for Windows\"},{\"text\":\"Feature Affected\",\"bold\":true},{\"text\":\": \"},{\"text\":\"Account Balances Report\",\"italic\":true},{\"text\":\"Issue Summary\",\"bold\":true},{\"text\":\": The \"},{\"text\":\"Account Balances Report\",\"italic\":true},{\"text\":\"

I'm using the standalone version of Quicken Classic Premier on a Windows 11 laptop. I'm trying to create a report to help me find what's causing a small discrepancy between my Quicken credit card account and the same account at my bank. As such, I want a simple report with custom dates and three columns: Date, Payee and Amount. But when I choose Banking/Transaction and try to customize the Display to the above specifications, the Columns list in the Show Columns box does not contain Payee in the list of options, even after I clicked on Reset Columns. I can't find any other type of report that looks like it would produce the format I want, so what am I doing wrong?
