Investment purchase entry

I am trying to enter a purchase of a security that I already own. It accepts the transaction. but does not record. It seems to be recording it as a sale which winds up on the income/expense report as an uncategorized line item. The number is in the trillions. In addition the investing screen does not reflect the transaction but overrides the total with the trillions amount. This is the 2017 quicken premier windows version
