Downloading a Merrill Lynch account as a checking account

I have my main checking account at Merrill Lynch. Under quicken for Mac 2007 and previous years, I was able to download the ML account and use it including reconciliations as a normal checking account. I do not keep any securities in the account. Since I upgraded to the new Quicken for Mac, I can only download the ML account as a brokerage account, which doesn't appear like a normal cash account. I therefore enter all my transactions rather than downloading them and then reconciling the account manually. This is time consuming and irritating. I am considering closing the ML account and creating a new bank account away from ML, but this will entail a lot of work and also difficulty interfacing with other ML accounts.
Do you have a solution? I have talked to ML and they do not offer any.

Quicken for Mac does not support "linked" checking accounts with brokerage accounts.
If you have it setup as a brokerage account (even though you have no securities held within), will it still download the cash transactions? If so, you can add the various columns to make it work more closely as a traditional checking account (check # column, etc.) And you can still reconcile cash transactions in investment accounts.5
