Problem re adding new security to investment portfolio
John M Andersen
I am using Quicken H&B version R16.22 and am having problems adding a new security to one of my investment portfolios. I 'open' the portfolio and add the new security but nothing happens - the new security does not appear. Any suggestions?

Here's the steps I use to add a Security manually to the Security List:
1. Go to the Investing Menu, select Security List then select Add Security
2. Enter Symbol or Name. I prefer to enter it "manually" using the "Click Here" below. If you have a Ticker or Company Name enter it. I prefer Ticker if using this method. If you have used a Ticker, Quicken will automatically download data on the Security if it is recognized.
3. If you have used the "Click Here" to add manually it will prompt you with a box for Ticker/Company Name/Security Type. Fill in any or all necessary. Click Done.
4. If you added a Ticker, next screen you may be able to change the Asset Class.
5. Click Done.
Alternatively, transacting on the security and doing an upload from your broker should automatically add it to Q.
If you are asking about how to "display a new Security" in your Portfolio view then "Customize" the Portfolio view to ensure that Security or Account is selected in that view. Options/Customize Current View/Securities to make sure it is there.
I'm guessing it might be the second suggestion, since adding the Security is fairly straightforward.

No joy so far. Nothing happens, other than I now have a new security in my security list.

a) In the applicable account, you need to "Buy" or Add Shares" of the security. Just adding the security to your list does not add it to your overall holdings.
b) Each portfolio view (Ctrl-U) can be individually customized as to which securities are included in that view. Customize the view to be sure the security (and Account) are properly included.

Knew I had forgotten a step (or two). Adding shares was the answer. Now the security appears in the portfolio as should.
Thank you
