can the status column be edited?

for some reason the program is not updating 2 older checks to "new match". I manually entered the checks and I can see on my account statement that they have cleared.

Sure. Just click on it.

BUT, manually editing that column isn't advised. It's preferable that you simple Reconcile the account ... and let the Reconcile process change the value of that column.

You can't directly edit the contents of the status column (the column with the blue dot in its header). To change its contents, the transaction in question must have its status changed.
