check writing screen blinks every few seconds, eventually settling after 10 minutes
PollySmith
I'm not able to enter check info until the screen stops blinking about every 3 seconds. Eventually it stops and I can enter the data and print the checks. The check register holds about 5000 entries. Ver: R22.12.

It's neither the Quicken program nor your data file.
Have you read the other discussion in the link that
@Quicken Sarah
gave you? Your problem is most likely caused by Dropbox or some other cloud backup service interfering with Quicken operation. Follow the advice given in that link to stop the cloud backup service and your problem should go away.

Can I save the data in a separate file and then download a fresh copy of the program to see if that fixes the problem?
