how do i get a summary of monthly charges/credits to a (credit card) account?

maybe I just dont get quicken reports but I cant get it to show me a summary of how much I charged and paid off by month - not just this month or last month or last year, but say totals for each month over the last year or another time period. This should be easy! I could export to excel and get it done that way but then why am i paying for quicken?

One way is via a banking, cash flow report. Customize it to include just the credit card account and on the advanced tab select the option to exclude self transfers(includes all others). Then select the option on the report itself to subtotal by month.
