Quicken upgrade - subscription only?

I need to upgrade my Quicken Premier 2017 and the only thing I can find is a subscription upgrade. Is an annual subscription the only way to upgrade an old version. Can you no longer pay to upgrade to a current version, use it for several years, then pay for a new upgrade?

Quicken is now subscription. You can buy from Quicken or get a better price (and longer term) by checking Amazon, Walmart, Staples, etc. You don't need to upgrade until Online Services expire on 4/30/20 for Quicken 2017.
