I can't create new accounts at all in Quicken 2016

No matter what kind of account I try to create (cash, checking, savings, MM, brokerage, etc.) I get a dialog box that says "Oh no! Your connected services have expired!" Yes, I knew that, but I'm not trying to do anything "connected", just create a new account on my own machine.
Is this a case of Intuit sabotaging my old version of Quicken to force me to switch from the Quicken I bought to one with an annual subscription fee?

Correction: it seems to have created the accounts after all; the dialog box was just a distraction. Never mind....0
