why are my check register balances all messed up

Recently after completing an update of my accounts my check register balances are all messed up. And they keep changing every time I open the account.

Keep in mind that, after downloading transactions from the bank, you may have what appears to be duplicate transactions, e.g., a register transaction and a downloaded transaction which Quicken couldn't match together. That impacts your balance. You need to look for these transactions and drag the downloaded transaction over the register transaction that it should be matched to. That should fix your balance issues.

Just a thought here.  Have you changed the sort order of the register?  Click on the Date column heading and be sure the small arrow points up, or down, whichever you prefer.   I can see that other sort orders do appear to be very misleading.    On some, my balance goes to 8 digits - I wish....
