Registers & Transactions (Mac)
Can I reconcile in the middle of my account?
Erin Roper
I have been downloading my credit card transaction for years, but not reconciling them. I would like to start reconciling as of Jan. 2020. Can I start there, or do I have to go all the way back?
Thank you.

I think, the $64 question is: Looking at your December 2019 statement, does its Ending Balance match the Register Balance of your credit card account register on the same day?
If it does, you can easily "mass-reconcile" all transactions before that date. Just start a Manual Reconcile, set the Ending Date to the December statement date and enter the statement closing balance (if you owe money enter the amount without a minus sign). In the main Reconcile dialog window click "Mark all" to mark all transactions. You should end up with a 0.00 balance difference. Click "Done".
If there's a balance difference, decide what to do: Go back to try and find the difference and fix it, repeat until balance matches, or run a Manual Reconcile and let Quicken create a Balance Adjustment transaction.
Either way, you are now ready to reconcile month-after-month, beginning with your January 2020 statement.

Hi, Erin:
Before I suggest ideas, do you plan on reconciling to statements or to an online balance?
(Reconciling isn't hard, but if you get off the treadmill, getting back on at the right point can be a bit tricky. So your answer helps tailor my answer.)

I reconcile from a statement. I reconcile my checking accounts every month, but wasn't sure if I had to go back to the beginning (ugh) on my credit card statements or if I could just pick up January 2020 and go from there. Thank you!

It does not match. I see an "Adjust account balance" feature. I can manually enter a date and a balance. I will give it a try. Thank you!
