Gigantic file size

I have a quicken file with many accounts and many dates which is 326MB big. I then made a copy of the file only using this years transactions and excluding all prior non-reconciled data. I deleted all accounts but two which had no interaction with other accounts or investments. I then super validated. At the end the new file was 237MB large. I was expecting a much smaller file. What else can be done with the new file to reduce the file size.

The way to reduce file size is File > File Operations > Copy. This lifts the data records out of the database and drops them into fresh new tables. In the process, it leaves behind things marked as deleted. This is the only operation that does this; other forms of "copy" do not.File size is generally unimportant and doesn't affect Quicken performance as much as you might imagine. If I were you, I'd return to the original data file and do the Copy operation and observe the size of the new copy.

Thank you Robert. That copy was how I started the process. Interesting after I made all the modifications I needed to again do your suggested File > File Operations > Copy. Now the file is an acceptable 72MB.0

"File size is generally unimportant and doesn't affect Quicken performance as much as you might imagine. " Not the performance but daily backups.0
