How to Change Rules

I have two accounts in one file (two banks for two separate accounts). I just noticed that a while back I had applied some rules to one account and it automatically applies those rules to the second account. I am not too familiar with rules and I am wondering if I delete all the rules now, is it going to affect older transactions. Also, where can I learn more about rules? Thanks.

Renaming Rules (F1 Help) are name based and not tied to any account. You cannot edit a renaming rule that does not work as expected. You need to delete and recreate. Typically Renaming Rules work hand-in-hand with Memorized Payees.
Any payee already in the register is unaffected by future renaming.5 -
Edit, Preferences, Download transactions, Renaming Rules, find the rule and click the arrow, listed renaming rules are listed erase old rule and enter new rule or copy & paste.
BTW these rules are not exactly tied to memorized transitions. I found renaming rules from 2008 to a company I know I deleted the memorized transaction, but the renaming rule was still there.5 -
Your preference settings are set the same as mine. The issue is the rule itself that must be deleted as stated earlier. As you can see from the attached image, you are asking Quicken to rename any downloaded transaction it sees with the name Debit For. That could be almost anything. The renaming rule should contain a name, not a transaction type (debit).
I would suggest deleting the rule you have set up and start fresh. I believe your confusion for edit is the pencil icon implying change. This is to change the renaming rule for say "Equity Trust Company" to Equity Trust and Savings".

I think I understand what you are saying. However, not 100% sure. I will play around and see what I learn. Thanks for the guidance.0

Sheds some more light on the topic. Thanks.0

Okay then, Here are the screen shots I snipped. The first shows the rule that I don't want. The second snip shows the choices. If I unselect all the checked options from the second snip, my problem goes away. Right? Then, I am back to manually entering the info in banking transactions.0
