I was a windows user so the Mac version is new to me. The reconciliation button is greyed out? why Second I see a column for putting in check numbers but no option for atm or EFT actions or how to make a deposit. I do not download from a bank

Choose to display the "Action" column. That is where you enter things like EFT, ATM, Dep, etc. You can edit the list of Action items under Window:Actions. (You can easily create new ones as well by simply typing it in during transaction entry, and it will be added to the list.)

The usual culprit causing Reconcile to be grayed out is you haven't specifically selected the individual account in the Sidebar and have instead selected an account grouping. Select that actual account's name in the sidebar.
