I use my quicken to record bank transactions for a small business i run. Its yearend is june 30. When I do a yearend copy and create a new file with transactions from july1 my archived file only has transactions to Dec 31. It shows a calendar beside the date but I cannot change it

Have you actually checked the archive to make sure it doesn't have transaction up to July in it?
I think what you are talking about is you can't change the second date because it is disabled.
The reason you can't change it is because they are making sure you aren't throwing data away.
If you look at the dialog when "My current data file will remain unchanged" you will see that the second date isn't disabled and you can put in whatever date you want. This because since you aren't changing the current data file and it has all the transactions in it, then no matter what goes into the archive, you will have a copy of your data in the current one.
Now when you select "I only want transactions* in my current data file starting with this date" you are basically removing data from the current data file and they want to ensure that what is removed is saved in the archive and not completely deleted. So depending on what you set for the first date, the second date will always be the same date from what I can see in testing it. Note that you can ignore the disabled date in the second date text box, it isn't what is going to be used, and the disabled date in the text box isn't updated to reflect this.

After playing with this some more, I'm wrong about the second date. When disabled it isn't set to the date entered in the first date text box (or the day before it), it is basically set to not remove any data out of the archived file.Signature:

Thank you for responding to my dilemma. All I can say I do not appreciate Quicken doing my thinking for me. . I have cloud backup, flashdrive backup and I have backup on my computer,so I really don't think I will lose my data, therefore, let me chose what I want to archive and what I want in my current file.-1

Well you can always post an idea so people can vote on it, but I doubt that Quicken Inc will change the policy. People aren't to forgiving when a program lets them shoot themselves in the foot, and it is Quicken's support people that have to deal with the angry people.Signature:
