Check # DEP appears in credit card transactions

I just used the FIND function and I noticed that some credit card transactions appearing in the list have "DEP" in the NUM field. I don't know how that field was populated and I can't clear it out because I can't add the field to the register. I'm using Quicken 2017 and have never used the download feature. Two questions: 1) how do I clear out the field? 2) how do I stop it from happening in the future?

In account types other than Checking accounts, this column is called "Reference #".
"DEP" usually gets added when you make a deposit transaction.
You can use Edit Menu / Find/Replace to find, select and replace Check number "DEP" with " "(blank)
Or you can sort a register by Check #/Reference # column, select a block of transactions, then right-click and select Edit ... similar to Find/Replace above.

With respect to seeing the column in a credit card account (I believe this was available in QW2017) --
    • Click the 'gear' options from the cc register view.
    • You should see a "Register columns" selection.
    • There should be a "Reference #" selection you can make to see that column in the transaction register (list)
