Why do 2 Windows files merge after Mac conversion?

Long-time Windows Quicken user. I have 2 separate files, mine and my dad's. I want move these 2 files over to my MacBook Air. Each time I try, the second file accounts get added to the first file accounts. They merge! Why do they do this, and how to I keep them separate on the Mac?

Im a Windows user. But for Mac I think you need to start a NEW Quicken file to transfer the other account into, Go to File-New.
I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.
