iS THERE ANY WAY TO TRACK SPENDING FROM YEAR TO DATE COMPARED WITH YEAR TO DATE FRO THE PREVIOUS YEAR?

I suggest you consider using a customized Income/Expense Comparison by Category report: select Reports > Comparison > Income and Expense Comparison by Category and Year to date in the Date range pull-down menu
