Sorry, I forgot to say that the seller has put us through so many gyrations and still swears that I must have corrupted data, but if every backup I make comes up as 'successful', and every validation and repair shows no problems with my data. Since she claims the Mondo patch is absolutely included with the Quicken software she provided on the USB (so it would be obvious that she has a copy of it I think). I've asked her at least 3 times to PLEASE just send me the patch, and every time I ask, she just keeps telling me that I MUST have corrupted data.
She also bases this 'corrupt data' issue because we sent her a couple of Error Codes that came up when it crashes, and that made her even more convinced that we had corrupted data. What we didn't tell her is that we've probably seen 6-8 different error codes. I just didn't bother to write every one of them down when the error screen appeared.

Hi Sherlock, have you had a chance to read my messy problem and (please) maybe, maybe give me some help? The seller of the USB that she swears has the Mondo patch and a bunch of other stuff to supposedly make it work better on Win10 and 11.
All I can say is based on the error messages I'm still getting, I can't imagine that there are any patches on the USB she provided. I've now validated my data about 10 times. The last time I ran it, I decided to print out the entire file because she still thinks the problem is with my data, not the program she sent.
Here's what it said at the top of the report:
QEL: No read errors.
QEL: All internal consistency checks passed.
I really don't know what else I can do to show that my data isn't corrupted.
Now, I can't even (manually) enter a single transaction without the 'Unexpected Error' message. I can't touch anything at this point without blowing it up again.
My husband is now working on another mini computer and his plan is to wipe the hard drive and install Win7Pro, which is what I had been using for so many years along with Quuicken. And I know what you're thinking - I shouldn't have such an old, unsupported version, but with Malware Bytes running constantly, I never had a problem with Win7Pro, running anything back in 2020 - and QuickenDeluxe2014 worked perfectly (until the 'unexpected error' started happening.) And it worked perfectly again after you gave me a link and I installed the Mondo patch. Not a single error message until now. I'm pretty sure I know why - because we just re-loaded Quicken directly from the disc, so it had no Mondo patch.
We do have physical discs for Win7Pro, Quicken Deluxe 2014, and all the other programs I use (like an old version of Word PerfectX5 which seems fine, but I haven't tried to break it yet 🤨, so maybe it has issues that I haven't noticed yet.)
FYI: I'm running on Firefox with DuckDuckgo as my search engine.
Some users on this site said that I should download and install Quicken13 - but what they forgot to take into consideration is that my data is NOT backwards compatible and I have no idea what to do about that. I assume there is no solution.
I really don't want to upgrade to a subscription service (and have all our financial data on the cloud). The users on this site said that Quicken2017 can be run without a subscription, and you can still keep your data on your hard drive - you just need an I.D. and password.
However, they also posted some tricks to mute the constant registration pop-up screen.
I'd really like to figure out a way to get this working again since I have transactions going back as far as 1995. (I know, I'm tearing my hair out). For the life of me I can't find anyone to provide me with a link to the Mondo patch. Some people said it just wasn't available anymore (courtesy) of Quicken. Quick does seem to make everything more difficult the higher they go with their versions, which is why I stuck with 2014 for so long.

You gave me some excellent help on May 5, 2020. Now I'm in the weeds again with exactly the same problem, the deadly 'unexpected error'. It first happened when I tried to enter a upcoming bill from Bill and Income reminders. first, if I clicked on 'enter' next to a bill, it didn't do anything. Ditto with 'skip'. After trying this a couple of times, I got the deadly 'unexpected error' screen. It also happened when I tried to specify a payment method or enter 'splits'.
I got a direct link some time ago from you on the Quicken community site when I asked about getting 'Unexpected Error' messages over and over again. You gave me a link to a Mondo patch, and once I installed that, I never had anymore problems. Until now.
I bought a refurbished PC that had Win10 already loaded on it, so we just installed the Quicken 14 Deluxe directly on the computer. It seemed to work okay on Windows 10 until I started getting the deadly 'Unexpected Error' message. I completely forgot that years ago I needed the Mondo patch (and of course that wasn't on the Quicken 14 disc I had), so that was probably bound to happen without the patch. Since then, the link you provided is no longer available, and other discussions on here have posted several different links, but when I click on them, I get a '404' error - page not found. I can't seem to find anyone who can provide me with a direct link to install.
I have been using Quicken since 1995, so I have a ton of data. When Intuit decided to turn this into a subscription-based serviced, I looked for the last version of Quicken that I could use without a subscription and where I could keep my data locally on my computer. It looked like Quicken 14 was the last version that I didn't have to pay a subscription fee and my data was stored locally on my computer and NOT in the cloud. I actually purchased a physical disc for Quicken 14 Deluxe and everything was working fine for a very long time.
Once I started getting the 'unexpected error' message (which also locked up my computer), you asked me if I had installed the Mondo patch. I didn't know anything about it, so you were kind enough to send me a direct link where I could download and install the patch. I used your link and found the patch immediately and installed it on my Quicken 2014 Deluxe and haven't had a single issue until loading it (without the patch) on the new PC.
I only use Quicken to (manually) enter transactions for Checking, Savings, and Credit Cards and totals each month on our investment account. I am not connected to any bank or our broker to download anything. I enter all transactions manually, and back up the data file consistently on a USB drive and it's worked great, until we loaded the physical disc version on the new PC (without the Mondo patch) running on Win10.
I haven't been able to consistently enter transactions or reconcile accounts because of the return of deadly error messages. Someone on eBay claimed to have a USB drive for Quicken 14 (although it was the Home and Office version rather than the Quicken Deluxe 14, but I didn't think that would be a problem), and she told me that it would have the Mondo patch on it and it would work on anything from Win 7 to Win 10 and 11. (Win 7 is what I had been running before upgrading to a computer with Win 10 already installed.)
Frankly, I wish I had my old computer back but alas it is gone now. Barring that, I'm wondered if we could blow Win10 off this computer, put Win7 back on the computre (I have a physical disc for Win7 as well), re-load Quicken14 Deluxe directly from the disc and then try to get a patch for that. But honestly, I'm worried that doing all that without having the correct Mondo patch, that it would make any difference.
Now it seems to be getting worse. I get various numbered 'unexpected errors' when I try to use Bill and Income Reminders. I can see them all so I know they're still there, but when I try to enter one or skip one, the error message pops up and I can't exit Quicken except by going to the bottom of the screen and close both the the error message and a blank page that identifies as Quicken - or go to Task Manager to shut down Quicken. In fact, everything is locked up. Once I do either of the methods about, Quicken will finally shut down. Unfortunately, the minute I try to re-open it, up comes the error message and I can't even open Quicken. It seems like each time I get these errors, when I finally can open Quicken again, I find 1 or 2 months worth of data missing. I even find my last backup (perhaps only a few hours old), and try to open that, but the data is still missing from my backup USB, with completely confuses me.
The only way we've found to get it to open is to remove Quicken from the computer and to a clean re-load from the Quicken 14 USB I purchased from the woman who claimed it would work and included the Mondo patch. And even though I was backing up data constantly - including ones that were backed up minutes before - I still got the dreaded error message and had to re-loaded Quicken again.
Once it's re-loaded, I can open Quicken, but then I see that not only did I lose the last few transactions (even though they were backed up) I realize that I'd lost even the most recent backup transactions and reconciliations. Restoring from the most recent backup doesn't seem to help either (which I really don't understand). I've lost over 2 months worth of entries - again. I'm so tired an frustrated with re-entering loads of transactions, and reconciling credit card and bank statement over and over again and then having Quicken blow up on me again.
I don't know what to do at this point. Losing the ability to access data from every year since 1995 is making me sick, but if I can't continue to use Quicken to manually enter transactions and reconcile accounts, I don't know what I'm going to do. I love Quicken because it basically does what I want and because I don't need all the other features. It basically acts (for me) like an electronic check register along with the ability to enter credit card transactions, electronic deposits and payments - and reconcile everything when I get bank and credit card statements.
Is it possible that you can (again) provide me with a link to the Mondo patch that will fix Quicken 14 (Home and Office), or preferably the patch that works on Quicken 14 Deluxe? I can still remove the Quicken program currently on my PC and re-install the Quicken14 Deluxe that I have on a physical disc, but without some kind of patch (or patches plural), I know it's just going to keep throwing errors. I'm desperate and I have no idea where (or how) to find it so I can re-install it on my computer.
I'd be very grateful if you could (once more) help me with this. I've been trying to figure this out for over a month. And along with re-entering data over and over again (only to have it disappear) and not being able to reconcile anything or use Bill and Income reminders, it also seems to crash quite often when I try to enter 'splits' on transactions.
I'm pretty desperate right now, so any help would be really appreciated.
We did message the seller on ebay, and when she got back to us here's the conversation:
Hi! I can definitely help with that 👍
Quick note - I need to keep communication here (can’t email outside), but I’ll walk you through the fix.
Error 6958 in Quicken 2008 usually means the data file got slightly corrupted or Quicken can’t read it properly on startup. (We got multiple errors, not just 6958, and sometimes a new one with every error message).
The program itself is usually fine. (I thought I told her that we tried to use the Quicken 2008 link she emailed to us — because she called it a 'bridge' that would format the data and then we could go on to Quicken 14).
As far as trying to install Quicken 2008, it didn't seem to work at all, so we waited for the physical USB she was sending in the mail. She seems to be under the impression that we're using the Quicken 2008 link she sent us digitally. Obviously, we aren't using the 2008 version, so I'm not sure the instructions she provided are specific to 2008, or just a general fix.
From the seller:
Try this first (very important):
Open Quicken without loading the file. Hold Ctrl + Shift. While holding, double-click on Quicken. Keep holding until it opens.
If it opens to a blank screen → good.
Then do this: Go to File → Open Quicken File.
Open your file from Documents (not USB)
Immediately go to: File → File Operations → Validate & Repair
Check Validate file → OK.
If it still errors: Restore the last good backup: File → Restore from Backup
Also check: Make sure the file is NOT on a USB or cloud folder.
Keep it in: Documents → Quicken
This is a common fix and usually gets it working again. If it still shows the error after that, tell me exactly when it happens (opening, specific account, etc.) and I’ll narrow it down further
Just as an aside, I have run validation multiple times on my data. And every time I do a backup (usually to a USB), it hasn't found any errors to repair. Ever time I back up Quicken, I always get this screen, so I assume the data isn't corrupted.
If you can think of anything we can do so I don't tear my hair out and go screaming up and down the street, I would greatly appreciate it.
