It's a Windows setting, as Quicken uses the Windows Short Date format.

Quicken user since version 2 for DOS, now using QWin Premier (US) on Win10 Pro.

Quicken works best when setting the Date format to a standard US date format which includes slashes, i.e., mm/dd/yyyy or m/d/yyyy
The Control Panel setting for dates, when using the Region "English (United States)" defaults to the proper Short Date

Many thanks to all. I had not realised that the solution lay within Windows rather than Quicken.
