I tried to record a purchase of 500 shares of a stock where there is a pre-existing position, so this is just an addition and the total was $4,200 yet i got the error message as above

    Hi @Golauren

This is likely being caused by an issue relating to a prior transaction (or perhaps transactions) in that account.  I know this sounds strange, but take a close look at this message thread - LINK.  You probably have a prior transaction in this account that was recorded incorrectly (Quicken thinks that transaction was at least, in part, a "short sale").  The solution will involve correcting the prior entries

Let us know if you have any followups.
