Incomplete Update process

I have a repeat question:
There seems to be a BUG in the “update” process in Quicken.
When I perform an update, on the ‘HOME’ screen, the investment account and watch list windows fail to update for 2 vanguard mutual funds (Wellesly and Wellington), but the NET WORTH amount shows that their prices have been updated. If I continue updating later in the evening, the investment accounts and watch list DO change to the daily NAV’s, and shows the proper gain/loss for the day. The NET WORTH amount does not change!
Is there a problem with “UPDATE”?

@ken267 - next time this happens, check the historical price list for these two funds.  I think what you will see is a current day price that is the same as the prior day's price.  Since these are mutual funds, during the day, the current day price should not be there.  The mutual fund price for the current day is supposed to be updated at the end of the day. I have seen this happen frequently with Vanguard funds.  It is not a bug in Quicken.  It is a pricing feed issue from Vanguard.

I guess Quicken has a bad provender then?
  • @ken267 - Either the pricing vendor, or Vangard.  Bottom line, the Quicken program can only reflect the prices are manually input, downloaded during an update, or created for a buy or sell.  Here is a good summary about how prices are, or can be, updated into Quicken.

At what time of day do you run your quotes update?
Mutual Funds typically take an extra hour after the stock market closes, sometimes a little longer, before the new closing prices have been calculated and posted to the service providers.
Usually I wait until past 5PM Eastern (M-F) before I run my One Step Update for the day.

The prices ARE updated! The issue is the updated prices are nor reflected in the watch list or the daily account activity until I continue to preform "UPDATE" . Any report I execute before the watch list and daily account activity are updated in those windows are correct.
Seems those two windows lag in getting updates.

Yes, I have discovered the historical price issue you refereed to. BUT, you will also note that the NET worth figure in the bottom right corner of the screen has been updated CORRECTLY with the new price. Even when I execute a report that includes these funds, the totals reflect the updated/today's value.
So if Quicken knows the new prices, why not update ALL areas where these funds appear? (i.e.:the daily account activity and watch list.)
    Don't understand!
  • @Ken267 - I've also noticed this lag between when the MV updates in the Investments tab, vs. the Investment account MV and Net Worth in the account list.  The lag can be as much as 20 minutes at times.  I am not a Quicken programmer, so I wouldn't be able to tell you why, but it always seems to "catch up" with itself by the end of the day.

Yes, that's the problem. I hope the Quicken programmers are in tune with the "community" and will address the issue. It's just an annoying issue. ( I was once, long ago, a computer programmer, I understand the complexities, but as a user and paying subscriber I expect them to pay attention to complaints, and try to fix them.
