why did my balance column suddenly change to an inaccurate balance and in italics

While working in Quicken to review transactions in my checking account my balance column suddenly changed to italics and the balances are inaccurate although in the left hand column the balance is accurate

I sounds like you inadvertently clicked a column header, changing the sort order to something other than Date. When the register is sorted by other than Date, the Balance column will show in italics to alert you. To resolve this, click the Date column header which will restore date sort order. To reverse the date sort order, click the Date column header again.
