Category cannot be blank

Quicken 2017 - just started giving error message when trying to save check 'category cannot be blank'
have always been able to save checks without filling category. Is this a setting issue?

    I can't say I remember QW2017, but I believe it did have this preference.

    Quicken user since version 2 for DOS, as of 2025 using QWin Premier (US) on Win10 Pro & Win11 Pro on 2 PCs.

    Is the category field really empty or did you type (and save) one or more blanks (space bar) into the field? This might make a difference.
