One-Step Update appears to freeze

I notice a lot of posts about One-Step Update freezing. In my case it appeared to freeze on the "Optimizing and something" stage, but finally, after a long time (like, 30+ minutes) it completed. It would be good if the installation process could show its progress in a little more detail so the user can see that it's still moving ahead, not just frozen.
