Clean up out of balance accounts without starting over

I'm back using Quicken after a couple of years of letting it sit. I have a long standing file that goes back quite some time, and after auto updating the accounts I see that some accounts are missing older transactions and do not reflect their true state. I'd like to "start over" but I don't want to delete all the data. Is there a best practice for entering some sort of "reconciliation" entry that will correct the current balance? Thanks.

One way forward would be to enter an adjustment to bring your balance into line. Look at the balance Quicken shows, look at the value of your account online, subtract one from the other, and that' the amount of your adjustment.
Another approach would be to leave your old file untouched. (You might even revert to a backup prior to you updating the accounts, and disconnect all the accounts from downloading.) Keep that file around for historical purposes. Then create a new file and start from scratch.Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19930
