You have a baby file. Mine is 379 MB.In Quicken go to the Help menu, hold CTRL, and click About Quicken. Capture the resulting display and drag'n'drop it into your reply. This shows some details about your file which might affect performance.
Quicken user since version 2 for DOS, now using QWin Premier (US) on Win10 Pro.

Quicken is just SLOW - doesn't really get impacted by the size of your QDF file.....0

is there something I can do to have Quicken respond normally? My quicken is so so slow when I am inputting data. It cannot keep up with my typing-it just drags and then it's slow to save. Everything just drags. I've really noticed over the past month or so - I just keep dealing with it, but it is so beyond frustrating. I reboot my laptop and it did not affect the program at all. Any help is appreciated.
My "about quicken" is:
Size 93182K
Accts 39
Categ 350
Mem payees 810
Sec/Max ref 10/10
Trans 24238
Sys Res 2097151K
Total M 2097151K0 -
Have you tried to restart the application (and/or your computer recently)Although I suspect with a recent update it has become slower than usual.0

what are the parameters of your laptop? what version of Windows are you using?
I am using Windows 11 (version 10) with a Intel 7 chip and 12 RAM of memory.... no problems at all

Total M 2097151KThe only thing that sticks out to me is the number of memorized payees. Do you really have over 800 distinct payees, customers, etc. to deal with? Or can this number be trimmed down a little? To trim the list and keep it in shape please do this:
In Edit / Preferences / Data Entry and Quickfill make sure you have a checkmark at
[√] "Remove memorized payees not used in [xx] months"
and set [xx] to something like "18". Do not set it to zero. IMHO, you should set the number to 12 or higher for best results, so that once-a-year payees don't vanish.Restart Quicken for the change to take effect and housekeeping to clean up the Memorized Payee List.
Check the File Information box again to see the reduced count.
When downloading transactions make sure you use Renaming Rules to change downloaded variations to standard names.
Reducing the number of payees in use will help performance while entering transactions.

Mine was running so slowly for years, make a change in a transaction and wait seconds. Repair didn't help. All they could offer was to archive a lot, which I did but it made no difference. Then suddenly last year they updated the software somehow and everything has been great. Until this week with the last update [Removed - Profanity]. Just hoping the next update fixes it.0

Thank you for the feedback. @Mark1104 - I'm on windows 11home/ version 21H2; intel 7; 16RAM. @UKR - I may have a lot of contacts - I do personalize those entries at times, but my preferences are already set at remove at 18 months and I definitely have multiple for the 12 month mark and don't want to set it lower! I will go in and see if I can clean up a bit. I guess hoping quicken can fix these glitches though! I started looking into other financial data options! That will be a big project as well though! I've been using quicken for over 10 years. Thanks everyone.0

My suggestion if nothing else works would be to do a copy that does a copy by records
File:
Copy or Backup
Advanced/ Create a Copy or Template (keep all defaults)
This will make a new copy
You will be FORCED to Setup Online Every Financial Institution again (a pain)
You should be able to see if it works before re-enabling all online accounts. If NOT helping, just open the original file again.0 -
Latest update seems to have really broken something. I'm having the same slowness and erratic behavior issues others describe. It's definitely NOT a hardware problem, as the previous version performed much better. Once again, their latest update broke something else in the software. I have a very fast laptop with a SSD hard drive. Quicken runs like a dog now.0

Yep. It is not a hardware or file size issue. It's an update issue.0 -

Yep. It is not a hardware or file size issue. It's an update issue. In that case please do the following actions:
- Even if you are on the latest software level already, download and install the latest Mondo Patch file from https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-mondo-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product to ensure your Quicken software is up to date and correctly installed.
- Reboot Windows.
- Validate and Supervalidate your Quicken data file.
- If nothing helps, try to restore your Quicken data file from an Automatic or Manual backup taken just prior to the problems first occurring. https://www.quicken.com/support/how-backup-or-restore-your-quicken-data
Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
Validate:
- Click File
- Select Validate and Repair File...
- Select Validate File
- If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots". If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
- Click OK
- Close the Data Log
- Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
- Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
Super Validate:
- Click File
- Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
- Select Supervalidate File
- Click OK
- Close the Data Log
- Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
- Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Mine too. It's been slowing down a bit over time but in the last couple of weeks it's unbearable and it's only Quicken. I do a lot of ALT-TAB to switch between windows and it takes 3-seconds (timed) just to switch from my browser to Quicken and when in the register probably 1-2 seconds between EACH FIELD. Unbearable.
I will try UKR's suggestions but I don't have time to do so right now but wanted to voice my displeasure about this!
------------
2 hours later... I:
1) backed-up, exited Quicken
2) Started, ran both the Validate and Super Validate (I didn't exit between the two)
3) exited, waited some time
4) opened it again and... wow - the problem is gone.
the validate/super-validate didn't "discover" anything other than an investment transaction with $0 cost (? don't recall exactly?). Verify said it fixed it, then super-verify said it found it and fixed it too so I'm not very confident it actually fixed the transaction. Of course it didn't tell me what transaction or what date the transaction was from - I've got 25 years of transactions so it's not very helpful in that regard.
BUT - no reboot and now the problem seems to be gone... for now.
thanks @UKR!0
