Issues identifying accounts with similar account numbers when trying to add to Express Web Connect
poolmy
I bank with Citadel credit union and have been having issues of late with not being able to set up online services via Express web connect for all of my 7 accounts at the bank. The data that comes through only shows XXXXXXXXXXX4538 as my account number with no other information to identify my account. Plus as shown the account types are different each time I try and re-setup. I think the issue is the account numbers all end the same at my bank and only the masked prefix identifies the different accounts such as Credit Card, CD, Savings and Checking. Quicken support saw the issue but offered no solution or escalation. They just told me to talk to my bank which was also a dead end. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi
@poolmy
,
I sympathize with your situation. I would suspect that (similar to the advice given by Quicken Support) your bank should be able to assist with your situation.
From your post, I get the impression that you may have ben able to "connect" at least some of these accounts in the past. Is that true? If so, what happened with that Quicken datafile, since you seem to not be using it anymore.
My gut tells me that Quicken will not be able to assist you with this problem because it relates to the bank's numbering policies. Have you tried escalating this to a higher level, or perhaps a branch officer, I can't believe that you are the only Citadel customer who has more than one account and uses Quicken.

Thanks Frank for responding. In the past I could get about 4 of my 7 accounts to work at one time. Over the last few months most had stopped working so that was the trigger of deactivating them all and trying to start over. Something has changed , not sure if from my bank or with Quicken causing the issue to get worse. I am trying to escalate at my bank , we shall see where that goes but not hopeful.

Hi again
@poolmy
,
I had a thought that might help you at least identify the accounts and get back on track with downloading (or at the least - you should be able to identify the accounts and then move forward).
First make a good backup of your datafile, so that in case things don't workout, you can return to where you are today.
Next, go to the "Online Services" tab of each of your Citadel accounts in Quicken - one by one and "deactivate" each of them. Then open the "Account Details - General tab" of each account and remove all data in the "Account Number", Routing Number" and "Customer ID" fields. (NOTE - if you don't have the information in those boxes readily available - you might want to write that down somewhere (or take screenshots) because we'll be re-adding that data later,).
Next, close your datafile and then reopen it. Then click "+" Add Account" and type in Citadel Credit Union, then click "Next". Enter your login ID and password, and click "Connect". Then just follow the process and
Add all accounts
found as "new accounts" - Don't try to connect them to any old account(s). Once this has completed - assuming the Citadel downloads are working correctly - you should have 7 new accounts, which you'll be able to identify now - in Quicken, with current balances.
To complete the process, I would suggest that you "move" all the transactions from each of the old accounts (with the exception of any recent transactions that are duplicates) into the new accounts and then adjust the balances to agree with the bank, as necessary.
I know it is a lot of work and wouldn't be surprised if you don't want to do it.
Get back to me with any questions, and results (if you go forward with this suggestion).

Frank I tried all those steps with quicken support and since the account names appeared the same the application would not let us add them since there were duplicates. Could not find a way to work around that. Great idea though,

Hi again
@poolmy
,
Okay, so I gave your the conventional approach first, saving a more unconventional approach, which I still think will work. Rather than use your current datafile, I suggest that you setup a new datafile (using a different file name).
And then follow the steps above in paragraph #4 - starting with the sentence
after
"Next, close your datafile and then reopen it." This will at least tell us whether it is possible to actually download data from these accounts. If that works, we can potentially move forward.
Let me know.

Yes that worked in a new file. Great idea but is there an easy way to move forward other than downloading all the transactions in and accepting them? Of course all my names on account\configurations and such are in the original file? Thanks
poolmy
Also my transactions in the original account have all my common Payor names not the one the back list them as. Thanks
poolmy
And of course catagories

Frank any suggestion on next steps? Thanks
Frankx
Hi
@poolmy
,
There is guidance on "merging two datafiles" in this
LINK
. It is somewhat complicated and time-consuming, but in your case, not as complex as the example (where to completely different datafiles are being merged). And clearly, you'll be moving all of your current accounts except for the ones that wouldn't connect in the old file.
Take a look and let me know if you decide to move forward, as I may have some additional thoughts.

Thanks started reviewing. A few thoughts would this be my sequence since my set up is basic and in reality, there is only one checking account that really has history that is detailed and I am concerned with?
1. Create a new file from fresh.
2. Set up new accounts.
3. Accept the downloaded historical transactions for simple accounts. Delete transactions downloaded for the main checking account I want to bring over historical history from legacy file.
4. Export the checking accounts: Transactions, Account list, Category List and Memorized Payees.
5. Import in those files into the new checking account.
6. Then do I download again the checking account and reconcile?
Just not sure about the best way to handle the transactions to not get double entries and have them reconciled\balanced.
Thanks figure I might wait to the end of the year to start fresh for the new year and still have a historically file to refer back to just in case.
