Quicken does not reconcile correctly if there is a credit (+ balance) on the credit card

I have noticed this for years. It is relatively minor, but it should not be difficult to fix. If there is a credit on the credit card, it will not reconcile correctly. The screenshot shows that after reconciling the card, Quicken reports a difference of -$172.40. In fact, the actual balance should have been +$86.20 rather than -$172.40 as reported.

It resolves once there is an amount owed on the card rather than a credit. This obviously happens if there is an overpayment on the card or if there is a refund on the card in an amount to cause a credit.

Regardless, Quicken should be able to account for the + vs. - amount.

    Did it reconcile correctly last time? Do you reconcile using online balance?

    No, it's a form of "user error." You need to enter the ending balance on the reconciliation screen as a negative number, not a positive number:

    Tom,

    Here is the screen I get when I do a Control-R. How do I go from here to make the change on the reconciliation screen?

    Odd, when I do {Ctrl}-R I do get the opening reconciling screen. Maybe close Quicken, reboot the computer, and try again?

    @Pat Marshall

    You may be able to get to where Tom suggested via the Balances button - bottom center.
