Running near 45 minutes now. Looks frozen. What do I do now? If I Task Manage will it have installed new version and thrashed my file?

Please be aware that the Quicken Community is an online forum that is primarily user-to-user based and therefore responses will not always be immediate.
If you are still experiencing this problem, it is fine to end with Task Manager and try installing the update again. Are you still experiencing this issue now when attempting to install the latest update? And if so, are you installing the update directly from within the program (Help > Check for Updates), or are you installing this version manually through the patch available in this support article?

Had the same issue when trying to update the popup when starting Quicken or from Help > Check for Updates. I was able to use the patch in the article to successfully run the update.

Quicken makes a backup of your data file before installing an update, so your data file should be in the backup folder should you need to use it.
