Schwab Reauthorization Detroys Transaction History Going back two years in Quicken

I've been dealing with this issue for 2 years, spent countless hours, and with Quicken support and they cannot help (so far). So, for the last two years I have been entering my Schwab transactions manually, reconciling myself, etc. without being able to download from Schwab into Quicken.

I know the problem and the solution, but I cannot figure out how to implement "the solution" in Quicken. The bottom line is whenever I authorize quicken to connect to Schwab, it downloads and messes with GOBS of history, and it royally screws up everything. Account balances all wrong, categorization missing and/or screw up, etc.

I've done this and restarted with a fresh back up numerous times and can't get it to stop. The solution is to get it connected to Schwab but do NOT download and/or sync/touch ANY of my Quicken history. I have that all done and up to date. I just want it to start downloading stuff going forward. I cannot get it to stop doing that and support is no help. They just keep telling me to do the same things I've tried 20+ times.

I even created a whole new quicken file, connect to schwab, downloaded and accepted everything, then went back to my correct file to no avail. I am using Windows 11 and have been using Quicken since 1993 and have had Schwab the entire time. It's a nightmare. I just need to know how to connect to Schwab while telling it not to touch anything in Quicken. And yes, i do have the "auto entry" stuff all off, etc.

I've now talked to Schwab again a couple times and they tell me they have nothing to do with how Quicken pulls stuff in, they just give Quicken authorization to access. I've also talked to Quicken a couple more times and the latest is "you just have to wait until we resolve this, we are having issues with connecting to some financial institutions". I said I've waited two years so far.

To me the resolution is simply. I need an option in quicken when I connect to a financial institution, Schwab in this case, to say "don't download anything, don't touch anything before today's date, don't touch my registers". It literally goes back to July 11, 2021 and completely screws up my registry, deletes my categorizations, splits, etc. I end up with incorrect balances, accounts that have long-since been closed with huge balances, etc. It makes no sense to me.

Have you considered disabling the preference to Automatically Add Downloaded Transactions to Investment Transaction Lists?

Did that. In fact, I've never had that option enabled, meaning I've never had automatically add downloaded transactions on for anything.

Wonder what the issue was TWO YEARS ago - as things have changed for Schwab downloading since fall 2022 -

There are so many moving parts now -
    - downloading vs manual - Quicken will be totally confused, as when it downloads it saves a transaction ID so it knows it already downloaded that entry… it is assigned and downloaded from Schwab - if you enter things manually, there is no record of that transaction, so Schwab will probably download another as a duplicate

    - download vs auth - When using the new Schwab EWC+ downloading protocol as of fall 2022, you need to auth over on the Schwab website to create a new one time handshake token between Quicken and Schwab/proxy -

A downloaded transaction that has the same info as the manually entered transaction should Match, not create a duplicate. If EWC+ is so bad it can't Match already entered transactions, it is much worse than I thought it was.

during the migrations from Direct Connect to EWC+ I seem to recall getting a few duplicates - but could be wrong -

The Schwab change happened sometime after July 2021. I had trouble from Day 1, gave up with no support and went to manual. We are not talking about a few duplicates, a few other errors. We are talking 100s of duplicates, bad matches, deleting categorizations, etc. It's hard for me to even describe the mind-numbing amount of stuff it screws up in a way that would take days to manually fix. Quicken blames Schwab, Schwab blames Quicken. The only "solution" I found was to create new Schwab Accounts, connect them, then delete everything in them. It is not possible to use the old accounts (with connection). So I made a transfer from old schwab accounts to new accounts to zero out old accounts and get correct balance on new accounts. This is a major bug in Quicken IMHO.

@jsltwin are you using mobile or web or syncing to the Quicken cloud?

I know at least a few of the super users here went through the Schwab switch from Direct Connect to EWC+ with minimal issues. Just wondering what variables might be different that are causing the problems you are seeing with Schwab. Most super users avoid mobile/web/cloud sync, so that could be one difference.
