Trouble opening a restored .QDF file.

Hello,

I had to restore a data file from my hard drive using a 3rd party software recovery program. I was able to recover the file but now it will not load on the latest version of Quicken. Perhaps the file is damaged and my question is this: Is there anyone out there who can repair a damaged Quicken data file? I asked Quicken Support if they would take a look at it and they will not. Just curious if anyone has had a .qdf file repaired.

Thank You.

what version are you running ….. Help —> About Quicken

what version is the backup ?

did you have a hardware failure - hence the 3rd party involvement ?
if recent backup - you should not have to Restore -
just Open it as a normal QDF Quicken file (renamed from Backup to just .QDF )

    Thanks for the reply.

I should have stated that I have been through all of this a couple of times with Quicken Support but no luck.

I kind of think the restored file may be damaged, so I just was wondering if anyone can repair a QDF file.

    Thanks again!

still would be interesting on the questions above and details as to the situation…

BTW - the “backups” are basically just “copies” of the main QDF file - so you should be able to Rename & then Open it …. Don’t need to perform a Restore

There is no one "out there" who can repair a Quicken data file for you. Watch out for scammers who say they can do it for money.

You haven't answered the important questions.

    1. What version/year of Q created the data file?
    2. What version/year of Q are you running now trying to use it?

We can't even begin to guess without that info.

After renaming the backup file as suggested, the file opened and problem solved. Thanks again for comments and help!

To the comments above, here is the information: The file in question was last successfully used on Quicken Deluxe 15.

These are the error messages I was getting when I tried to open or convert the file.

Also, correction to the post above stating that the problem was solved. Long story, but my problem still persists. Any additional help or thoughts? Thank you for letting me know that no one can repair a QDF file!

Do you still have your installation disk or download for QW2015? If so, you could try reinstalling QW2015 and see whether you can validate & repair the file in that version. If that appears to succeed, then you might get lucky and be able to open it in the subsequently reinstalled QWin Subscription.

You would need to bring QW2015 up to patch level 17.4 available here before running it.

    Rocket,

Yes, I still had my download for Quicken Deluxe 2015 and I installed it, updated to Release R 4 (24.1.4.19). When trying the file in question I still get the same error messages when I try to open or convert it? This is what leads me to think the QDF file may be damaged as it was a recovered file from the 3rd party software recovery program I purchased.

    Thank You.

Note: Quicken Support also had me download/install Quicken Deluxe 13 based on Convert Data From an Earlier Version of Quicken (When to Use an Intermediate Version). GEN82211 in Quicken Support search. This did not work for me either.
