Why does Quicken crashing when accessing or referencing PDF attachments

I have two Quicken files on my computer. One file, a little over 1GB, and another 500MB. No issues with the larger file. But on the smaller file, I am constantly having issues when attaching and accessing PDF attachments on transactions. Either the attachment will not open, or Quicken will crash.

Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue, or how to best troubleshoot?

Thanks!

How many attachments do you have stored in your problem data file?
IIRC, there's a finite limit of 2500 attachments before the Zip file system is full.

It may not be possible to repair a damaged file system structure for attachments.
Have you tried validating and supervalidating this data file?

    Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
    Validate:
    • Click File
    • Select Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Validate File
    • If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots".
    • If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
    • Click OK
    • Close the Data Log
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    Super Validate:
    • Click File
    • Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Supervalidate File
    • Click OK
    • Close the Data Log
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Hi @ukr , thanks for the reply.

The problem data file is just under 500MB. The file with no issues is approximately 1.25GB.

I have tried both validate and super validate, and this does fix it, temporarily. But the next time I open the file, the issues has returned. So I have started performing a super validate every time before I start using the file, and for the most part, have no issues. Although, attachments do lock up time to time.

    Thanks,

    James
