Incorrect currency for an account

I have two currencies — US and Australian. I just discovered that one of my Australian checking accounts is actually registered as a US account. Apparently it has been that way for years. There is no obvious way to change it. What should I do?

    How about …
Backup your Quicken data file before you start working on this.
Create a new account register with the correct currency, today's date and A$0.00 balance.
Transfer the old account's balance to the new register using a 1:1 exchange rate, to zero out the old account and begin the new account with a correct balance.
Start recording all new transactions in the new account register. You will have to change all scheduled reminders to begin using the new register from now on.

Optionally close the old account register, to prevent new transactions from being entered.
Rename the old account name to begin with a "zz" prefix, e.g., "zz ABC Checking (old)". This will make the old account appear in selection lists at the bottom of the list, making it less likely to be selected by mistake.

In the Currency List make sure the USD currency symbol is different from your Australian currency symbol, to make it stand out in the Account Sidebar and elsewhere.

    I would add:

    • If you do not need to record anything in any account in USD, go to Edit > Preferences > Calendar and currency > uncheck the box for Multicurrency support > OK. Make sure your Windows settings is set for AUD. It is my understanding this will not change your current account in Quicken from USD to AUD but it will ensure that no new accounts will be set up with any currency other than AUD.
    • After you have set up the new account for AUD and moved all transactions from the current USD account into it you can go to Account Details of the current USD account and click on Delete Account. NOTE: Deleting an account cannot be undone (other than by restoring a backup file that still has that account in it). But if all transactions/data in it have been moved from the current USD account to the new AUD account then there is no need to keep the current USD account any longer and it is safe to delete it.
