Removing a payee from ONLY the Check Pay drop-down list keeping it everywhere else

Anyone know how to remove a payee from the Check Pay list, without deleting the payee elsewhere? In other words, do a simple edit: you added a name for Check Pay, now you want to delete the name, but only from the Check Pay dropdown list. You do NOT want to delete a payee and then have to add that same payee back. You just want to remove that payee from the Check Pay list, and only that dropdown list.
