"An error occurred. The update failed to download." - this might help

I was not able to download and install the current update (R52.20). (I use Quicken for Windows , desktop application.) I kept receiving a message, "update failed to download". When I clicked on "details", nothing was there—it was blank.

Steps I took to resolve:

  1. Turn off VPN.
  2. Reboot PC.
  3. Restart Quicken.
  4. Shutdown and restart PC.

None of those worked. Since Quicken seems to connect on its own, i.e., it's a desktop application, as opposed to going to a website to download an update, I didn't think a browser was the problem. But I think I was wrong about that because on a lark I decided to clear cache and cookies (and update) the browser I usually use--Microsoft Edge--and after that I was able to update Quicken to the current version.

So, if you cannot download and install a Quicken update, try clearing cache and cookies on the browser you usually use, and make sure you are using the most recent browser version.

Of course, my "solution" might have simply been a coincidence. What do you think?

Thanks!

Mark
