,macOS 13.6

when entering a split transaction, i am not able to just allocate the sales tax across several transactions like i was used to on the windows version. not sure what i'm missing

You're not missing anything; there is no tool in Quicken Mac to distribute a sales tax amount across multiple splits.

In the legacy Quicken Mac program, there was a feature called QuickMath which enabled users to define one or more sales tax values (or other actions, like discount percentages) and assign each one a letter. So for example, I live in southwest Pennsylvania, where I might pay Pennsylvania sales tax, Philadelphia sales tax, or New Jersey sales tax. I assigned these tax rates to 't', 'p' and 'n', and could then apply sales tax to splits, where appropriate, with the touch of a single key in the Amount field. (so a purchase of $10 which insured Pennsylvania sales tax would be entered as "10t", resulting in an amount to $10.60.) The bad news is that this feature does not exist in the re-built modern Quicken Mac. The good news is that the Idea thread requesting this functionality has recently been marked as "Planned" by the developers. So… there's hope for the future; we just don't know when.

Meanwhile, you have to do the math in the amount field of every split. For instance, to apply Pennsylvania sales tax, I create a split, enter the category, enter the amount, then press "*1.06" in the Amount field, then Tab to the memo field. It's annoying, but it's workable.
