How can I assign split categories to multiply downloaded SS income transactions? (edit)

I need to recategorize multiple transactions in my check register to the same split categories.

How can I do this?

Probably one at a time. Can you give more details? What splits need fixing?

I'm helping someone else new to Quicken.

They downloaded transactions for the first time and all their past social security income came in as a Net Salary category.

I want to split the categories for those transactions to Social Security Income and Medicare Part B categories so the Tax Planner shows more accurate tax information.

I hate to have to update each one individually and was hoping there was a way to select multiple transactions and assign split categories to them, but I can only find how to assign one category to a multiple transaction selection.

Your best path in my opinion is to:

    • Memorize the transaction the way you need it.
    • Enter that memorized transaction monthly as needed. Should only require a date adjustment each time.
    • Delete the downloaded version of the transaction

There are 30 transactions that have been downloaded that need to be changed. IS there no way to assign split categories to multiple transactions?

I would have expected Quicken to use the same code that assigns a category to a single transaction as to multiple transactions. Guess that's not the case.

I understand your workaround though. Thanks.

No way I know of to edit in split categorization.

The other reason for the memorized version is to use it as an auto entered transaction going forward. Otherwise it just becomes a recurring issue.

It shouldn't take too long to change 30 transactions. I would first sort the register by payee/description so they are all together. Once you change the first one, then memorize it. Then maybe on the second one if you start typing over the payee name the memorized info will pop up and you can hit enter Ctrl+enter to enter it.

and…. since the SS income is a monthly event - just create a Quicken manual Reminder -
setup with all the fixed numbers and Category splits that don't change for the year -
then the downloaded SS deposit will Match the entered Reminder - and all will be good -

@volvogirl I understand the manual editing and the scheduled Reminder.

Shouldn't split categories in addition to one category changes be one of the features of multiple transaction edit?
