how to properly record a buyout of an alternative investment
I received more money than my basis in this private company. When I recorded all prior distributions, I would increase cash and reduce my basis. Today, my "investment" appears overdrawn by my profits. Any suggestions on how to correct my balance sheet, etc.

Presumably you used RtrnCap transactions for the prior distributions such that the basis was reduced. Was that choice based on tax treatment or something else?
As a tax treatment, you are limited such that the basis does not go below $0. Subsequent distributions are taxable rather than a reduction of basis, Any buyout at that point would be 100% capital gains over the $0 basis. (CAVEAT: I am not a tax pro et al. Do you due diligence!).
If you had some other reason for the process, the buyout treatment would seem to be your choice, but I would consider a similar logic.
