Anyone seen this issue with the Categories tab of the Customize xxxx report dialog?

In words: In the Select categories box, when a category in the list is preceded by a category more than one 'level' above it, the selection list doesn't move the category as far 'up' the levels (to the left in the window) as it should. This makes selecting categories for reports unpredictable. In the picture above, if one were to deselect Scat1.2. in the Select categories list, both Scat1.2 and Scat1.3 would be removed from the report. As you will note from the screenshot 2 up from the bottom, the same issue does not occur on top level categories.

The file, categories, and pseudo transactions in the screenshots above were created 'fresh' in a new Quicken file. (After I did enough spelunking around my chunky old file to understand what the issue was…).

Requested particulars:

1 - Quicken Classic Premier for Windows

2 - How long has this been happening? nooo idea. it's a 'edge' sort of a problem and I usually am running reports with whole groups of categories selected so it could have been decades.

3 - I've spent about 2 hours on the phone with Quicken support staff and it's pretty apparent that this is not a problem that's widely understood (maybe because it's not widely encountered). It's completely duplicable, however, so the 'good' sort of bug to have, and ought to be easy to correct. In the meantime, I'll be naming and organising my categories so the '2 level up' situation never happens.

Cheers.

Nope, I have never seen that problem. But I don't have categories nested more than 2 deep.

Are these "Scat" categories real, or created to illustrate this problem? I assume created for illustration due to their names.

I'd try a Validate & Repair just for grins and see if that fixes it.

I have not seen that issue but the naming convention could be an issue. I wonder how "deep" the name / ordering goes? I, like @Rocket J Squirrel , do not go more than 2 deep.

To quote Quicken, "In a Quicken file you can have up to 32,768 categories, subcategories, or tags and subcategories can be nested 16 levels deep"

Yup, categories are fabricated. Could illustrate the same bug with my 'production' file, but wanted a completely clean instance to illustrate the issue, so created it from scratch.

Both my 'production' file and the little test file have been Validated and SuperValidated (repeatedly) and have no errors.

It's not a file issue. The code that is reading the category list isn't building the Select categories list on the Categories tab properly.

Appreciate you sharing, I learnt something new.
